The Odel Jean is a fresh update on Elk's best-selling Oslo Jean - with the same mid-rise fit and a flattering, wide-leg silhouette. The coated finish is one of Elk's most popular fabrications, with a length designed to sit just above the ankle, this style is crafted by Saitex, one of our preferred makers. We are working with not-for-profit organisation Canopy to ensure that our forest-based fabrics are responsibly sourced from sustainable forestry. These producers are considered low risk or have taken substantive action to eliminate risk of sourcing from ancient and endangered forests.

Certified Organic Cotton is grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, hazardous pesticides, or genetically engineered seed, which protects biodiversity and waterways and builds and maintains soil fertility. Cotton is a naturally renewable and biodegradable fibre. The Cotton in this garment is sourced from India.

This knit was made in Dongguan, China by Cool Partners International who has their own factory, Colt Rise Apparel which was established in 2018. They also have a close working relationship with another factory in the same group, the Dongguan Kinci Knitting Factory which was established in 1992. We have visited both factories to see our items in production. Knitwear production is highly specialised and Cool Partners are actively working with us to source sustainable yarns mostly through UPW and Novetex. These factories are members of Sedex and undergo regular SMETA social audits.

Bharat has been making leather designs for us since 2017. Located in Delhi India the operation is a modern, well organised facility. We visit their workshops at least twice a year and have dedicated people on the ground for Elk working with the Bharat team to assess working conditions, manufacturing processes and to see our goods being made. They are a friendly, open team with a very collaborative environment. Bharat is members of Sedex and have up to date audits in place. Additionally, all products are passed by REACH standard regulations, meaning they are made with restricted levels of specific chemical substances in their goods.

They are a family business with all members of the immediate and extended family playing key roles. We visit BN at least twice a year and we have ELK agents on the ground working with them on transparency, quality and operational standards.

Maker

These shoes have been handmade in Agra, India by family-owned and operated factory Gupta Overseas Pty Ltd. They have been in business for over 60 years and specialise in making shoes for the European market. We visit the factory at least twice a year to see our products being made, assess working conditions, source materials and learn new techniques.

Each design is tested at ELK HQ where the shoes are worn for a period to consider comfort, wear and style. The leather upper is made using REACH standards, a European Union regulation (1907/2006/EC) restricting the levels of specific chemical substances in goods.

With a commitment to responsible business practices and a culture of continuous improvement, Gupta has implemented some outstanding initiatives to support their employees, community and the environment.

Gupta has SA8000 social accountability certification and as members of Sedex undergo annual Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) audits, to ensure safe and ethical work practices.
