Find Happiness in Each Day

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best," and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn’t know what it was called. — A.A. Milne

Sometimes it’s those so-called un-interesting, everyday moments in life that bring unexpected happiness. Judge me if you will but I get a real kick out of cleaning my apartment from top to toe while listening to Greek pop music. It may not be glamorous but sometimes I couldn’t think of anything I’d rather do than stay in on a rainy Friday night watching Sex and The City re-runs and my idea of a perfect afternoon is getting so wrapped up in a great novel that hours fly by in the blink of an eye. Just this weekend I got so swept up in World Cup fever that I watched Australia play Chile on Saturday morning and then stayed up until 2am winning at board games (I’m the undisputed Balderdash champion at my place) until the Greece – Colombia game began. While I know these pastimes may seem “boring” to some people, to me they represent life’s simple pleasures and they bring their own unique blend of happy vibes and good times.

In saying that, getting lost in a foreign city is still one of my absolute favourite things to do in the world and I wish I could collect stamps in my passport at the same rate my big sister seems to collect parking fines. Nevertheless, I’ve learned the importance of savouring the little every day moments of joy that exist in between the BIG my-life-is-just-like-a-movie, happy moments that occur during those extraordinary experiences that make it into our Facebook pages and photo albums.

Take stock of the little happy moments in your life, you'll often find that they turn out to be the things that make you smile the most.
