Thank You For Being A Friend

How many friends do you have? Real, true friends. Not the 500+ you have on Facebook. And I don’t mean your fair-weather friends who constantly want to talk about themselves or who only have time for you when they are single either.

I’m speaking about the besties you speak to often, and even the ones you don’t but it feels like you do. The memory makers. The ones that always make time to visit. The organisers of the good times. The ones who make a big deal on your birthday. The friends who open your fridge and help themselves. The genuine and loyal buddies who believe in you and truly know and love you.

Those friends.

Take a personal inventory of your BBFs. I bet that you can count them on one hand… maybe two if you’re lucky.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve realised that when it comes to friendships its quality instead of quantity that really matters.  If you view life like a party you’ll see that there’s a loads of people on your guest list. Some make an early exit, some stay all night, some show up really late while others don’t bother to RSVP at all. But in the end, when the good times are winding down there are a few who stay to help you clean up. And most of the time they aren’t even the ones who made the mess in the first place. These VIPs are your true friends. They are the ones who matter most and these are the friendships you need to make time for and nurture.

“They say nothing lasts forever; dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style” Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City.
