Walt Disney will forever be remembered as the man who created some of the most amazing animated characters and stories that the world has ever seen. As well as this he created a massive business that built some of the most amazing theme parks on this planet. The thing that most people don’t realise about Walt is that he faced some really terrifying times in his business life that almost caused him complete financial ruin. This happened on many occasions because he kept investing so much of himself and his finances into what most people thought were improbable ideas.
"Mickey Mouse popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and myself were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner."
The fact is that Disney had little regard for money. Money was only useful to him because it could help him create his next amazing (or crazy) idea. His brother Roy was the one that would always be scrambling for money to keep the business afloat whilst Walt was busy creating his dream.
"Disneyland is a work of love. We didn't go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money."
Walt Disney shows us that following your dreams wholeheartedly can bring you some massive rewards, but this can also be accompanied by lean times and stress. Loving what you do and keeping true to your ideals can be tough but it can also be glorious. As Walt said "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them".
