ELK - Jalmara Backpack - Black

ELK backpacks have a reputation for combining function, style, and durability, and our Jalmara Backpack is no different. Crafted from buttery soft leather in two stylish shades of Black and Mushroom, this style is perfect for tackling whatever the day has in store. The main body features a cleverly designed expandable gusset that easily fits small laptops, as well as a front pocket secured with subtle magnetic closures and is lined in cotton for peace of mind. The belting leather strap can be worn three ways: as a backpack, a shoulder bag, or as a crossbody.

Material

100% Cow Leather

Leather is a natural, renewable material made from animal hides that have been preserved and softened through a tanning process. We select our leathers based on their properties and the intended application.

Leather lasts a long time, ages well and is easy to care for and repair. Unlike many synthetic materials, leather develops patina over time and gets better with age. Buying a well-made leather product can be considered an investment and supports the slow fashion ethos of “buying less, buying better”. Leather can be recycled or upcycled, and once it reaches the end of its lifecycle it is biodegradable.

Chromium VI is not used in any tanning processes for our leathers.

Makers

Bharat has been making leather designs for us since 2017. Located in Delhi India the operation is a modern, well organised facility. We visit their workshops at least twice a year and have dedicated people on the ground for Elk working with the Bharat team to assess working conditions, manufacturing processes and to see our goods being made. They are a friendly, open team with a very collaborative environment. Bharat is members of Sedex and have up to date audits in place.
