    100% Cow Leather

    This product is made from leather sourced from a Leather Working Group (LWG) audited and rated tannery. LWG aims to improve the environmental impact of the leather industry by assessing and certifying leather manufacturers. The audit protocol covers energy use, waste, water use and chemicals, as well as traceability.

    Chromium VI is not used in any tanning processes for our leathers.

    The Banja Shirt Dress is a relaxed, comfortable style with a textured finish. Containing environmentally responsible ECOVERO™ viscose, this semi-sheer style includes a soft jersey slip and has buttons which allow you to wear it either as a dress or open as a shirt jacket. The light pocket flaps across the chest add an extra layer of detail. Consider styling this as a classic, light dress with a simple sneaker for a great everyday outfit.

      MATERIAL

      100% ECOVERO™ Viscose

      This textured fabric has a soft, sheer base with a thin velvety stripe that runs throughout.

      Contains 100% LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose fibres, derived from sustainable wood and pulp, coming from certifed and controlled sources.

      LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres have been certified with the EU Ecolabel for textile products (license no. AT/016/001) as meeting high environmental standards throughout their life cycle: from raw material extraction to production, distribution and disposal. The manufacturing of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ branded viscose fibres generates up to 50% lower emissions and water impact compared to generic viscose. According to Higg MSI™ tools, CO2 emissions and fossil resource use are approximately half that of the industry average.

      A special manufacturing system enables LENZING™ ECOVERO™ branded viscose fibres to be identified in the final product, even after long textile processing and conversion steps through the value chain.

      The fibres used in this fabric are renewable and biodegradable.

       

      SIZE AND FIT

      This dress has an relaxed, oversized fit, designed to be worn as a kaftan-style dress with the interior slip fitting true to size. We recommend you take your usual size.

      MAKER

      These garments were made by Fluid Connection who were established in 2006. They have been making garments for us since 2016 and we visit the operation in Hangzhou, China at least twice a year. The factory that makes our products is a relatively small operation but quite modern with automated systems for efficiency and quality. They are actively working with us on ways to improve the sustainable profiles of our products, including the core fabrics, packaging and trims.

      The factory is a member of Sedex and undergoes regular social compliance audits.

      The Else Necklace is a lightweight necklace made from hand-cut, cylindrical wooden beads which have been crafted from plantation timber. Within the single strand design, two feature pieces have been carefully hand painted with shiny, metallic paint in a grid pattern to make for a subtle addition to any outfit or a great layering piece with other long necklaces.

      MATERIAL

      Plantation Timber

      This jewellery piece was hand made by skilled artisans in the Philippines, using mamalis timber (Pittosporum pentandrum), also known as white wood or pangantoon. The timber was grown in the Philippines in managed plantations.

      Each wooden bead is hand turned and custom dyed, followed with a natural wax polish for surface protection.

      MADE ETHICALLY

      This piece is handmade in Cebu, Philippines by a family-owned workshop called Earthworks who have collaborated with ELK since 2004. We have a wonderful relationship with the owner, Christine, who has become an (unofficial) part of our family. She runs an incredible business with a team made up mostly of women, with some great skills training and health program initiatives in place.
